love of storytelling, clear vivid language and respect for history is important
This CBS News cast mentions that printed news papers will soon be erased by media being so relevant is our lives. I think this is true to a point. I think the printed paper will defiantly become less frequent. I do not see the need for a printed copy to be delivered everyday, maybe just the Sunday paper. My family always paid to the paper every day but we really read the Sunday paper for the "good" comics and for the coupons or as my grandma says, for the grocery money! With all the apps on phones and the internet, I do not see the need for citizens to be paying for something we read online 9 times out of 10.
Storytelling never gets old no matter how old you are. We grew up being told or read stories, whether it was Dr. Seuss or life stories from family members. Even now at 22 years old, I love to here stories at our family reunions about the things my mom, aunts, uncles and grandparents did when they were growing up.
As for history, that is a whole different story for me. I see the need to learn about history, but I have never been interested in history besides WWII. Yes, kids need to be taught history and proper language in school, but I think that unless you have a desire to learn history, its not easy material to learn.
Overall, I believe media is slowly making the need for paper copies disappear, but that is not our only way of finding out what is going on around us. If it were, then I think we would have an issue.
I'd like to say that the Sunday papers is pretty much it for us as well. At 35, we grew up with breakfast at the table while my dad would scoop the paper for news and any other exciting information. That alone is history to me. As we go away from written media to media on the go, I believe that we are witnessing history as we speak. Even within the last 10 years. We've gone from kids with quarters to call mom to pick them up at school, to kids from 8 years old on calling mommy or daddy on their cell phones. That to me is a big revelation. We've gone from seeking information and needs out, to having them all in the palm of our hand. But with that said, history taught at schools is important yes, but I also believe history of a family is much more important to an individual. This is where you stated, story telling of your families shenanigans from back in the day is gold in my eyes. History, to me is there to teach a lesson, and I believe there is no lessons better than the ones lived by our loved ones. Although some might be crying for their newspaper at the table, I believe we've evolved from that point and I see that as a good thing.
